Lecture on: Dominican
Republic and Climate Change: Future Perspectives
and
Seminar on: Climate Change and its impact in the
Dominican Republic and the Caribbean
April 19-20, 2006
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Climate Change refers to long term changes in the average temperature and
other environmental indicators, attributed directly or indirectly to human
activity, that alter the composition of the global atmosphere and impacts
life on Earth.
The lecture and seminar on Climate Change, future perspectives and impacts
in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean, represent an attempt of
Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE),
its sister organization in the United States, Global Foundation for
Democracy and Development (GFDD), in association with their local
Environment Working Group, the
Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources
of Dominican Republic, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP)
in Santo Domingo, to address updated issues on Environment, and collaborate
on creating consciousness on a wide audience.
The event is part of the continuous efforts of the International Center for
Environmental and Sustainable Development Studies (CIEMADeS,
for it Spanish acronym), created by FUNGLODE, GFDD, Universidad del Turabo
from Puerto Rico and the Université Quisqueya from Haiti, to promote the
collaboration among government, non-government, academic and other
institutions to partake and contribute to the improvement of the environment
and promote the sustainable development of the region.
The purpose of these activities is to gather experts and relevant parties,
representatives from the public and private sectors and non-governmental
organization from Latin America and the Caribbean, the United States and
Europe to share lessons learned to date, form a knowledge network to connect
efforts and experiences on Climate Change issues, and promote further
discussions on relevant key matters.
Climate change issues are among the key elements on environmental
discussions all around the world. Global Foundation for Democracy and
Development (GFDD), Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), and
our partners in this activity, have identified the main subjects on this
topic, and in this sense, we are determined to transferring updated
knowledge on future perspectives on Climate Change and its impact in the
Dominican Republic and the Caribbean in a broad-spectrum approach and in
specific areas as agriculture, sustainable development, state islands,
Caribbean Sea, tropical storms, natural disasters prevention, and
biodiversity.
