Participation in Virtual Educa 2006-06-21
Bilbao, Spain, June 20th-23th, 2006

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, GFDD, and its sister organization, Fundacion Global Democracia y Desarrollo, FUNGLODE, were widely represented at Virtual Educa http://www.virtualeduca.org/ which opened in Bilbao, June 20, 2006.

This VII edition of Virtual Educa, the international forum on Education, Professional Development, Innovation and Cooperation, gathers representatives from the most relevant institutions, universities and associations in Latin America, Europe and the Caribbean, dedicated to the use of technology and quality in education.

The theme of this year’s meeting is “From the Information Society to Knowledge Society: Continuous Education as a Strategic Factor for Social Development.”

FUNGLODE/GFDD has been a long-term partner of the Virtual Educa initiative and hosts annually Virtual Educa Caribe in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

GFDD Executive Director, Natasha Despotovic, will be presenting the portal www.dominicanaonline.org as an instrument to nation-building and presentation of the cultural values of the Dominican Republic to the rest of the world.

Semiramis de Miranda,  GFDD ICT Manager will introduce “Univirtual Global Dominicana,” http://www.globalfoundationdd.org/frameset_projects.html an initiative of GFDD/FUNGLODE contributing to the social development of the Dominican Republic with Dominican contents and vocational training.

Omar de la Cruz, FUNGLODE Manager for Audio Visuals, will also be presenting the case of FUNGLODE/GFDD using audio-visual media for educational purposes of teenagers and young adults.

The Dominican Republic government is represented by the Minister of Higher Education, Ms. Ligia Amada de Melo, who leads a delegation of high ranking officials.
