The First Audio Visual Production course closes in Santo Domingo
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, July 7th, 2006

On June 30, 2006, in Santo Domingo, the “Introductory Course on Audiovisual Production: Film and Television” came to a closure with a ceremony.  This course was sponsored by Global Media Arts Institute of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), with the collaboration of, ‘Opportunity Program’ of New York University (NYU) and One Race Films.

This event was hosted by Omar de la Cruz, manager of Audiovisuals of FUNGLODE.  This ceremony also included the North American actor, Vin Diesel, who handed the certificates to the twenty talented students who partook in this four weeks course.  Vin Diesel was very pleased and felt it was a very special day for him because his idea became a reality. Vin Diesel recalls that, a year ago, this inspiration arose with Valentino Morales in New York, when they decided to come to Dominican Republic and share with President Leonel Fernández the possibility creating a cinematography industry in this country, “after all,” he remarked, “it is the multicultural Mecca of the world.”

The ceremony also counted with renowned representatives from the cinema industry such as: Juan Basanta, Dominican Television Producer, Arturo Rodriguez; Director, of the National Film Direction; Irving Vincent, Director of Multimedia Lab Opportunity Program of New York University, and George Argento, assistant professor, New York University.  Throughout the course, the students were able to count on these valuable experts to guide them with their production.

To wrap up the ceremony, the students were able to share with the audience their final work, whether it was a commercial, a short film or a documentary video.
“All the students’ hard work and dedication can clearly be seen in their final results,” proudly stated, Irving Vincent.

This is the first activity under new FUNGLODE/GFDD initiative, the Global Media Arts Institute, dedicated to the training of young people to become TV and film producers and to promote the TV and film industry in the country.
