First InteRDom Internships Come to an End
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, August 17th, 2006

The first group of students with InteRDom (the exchange program created by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo), have finished their eight-week internships with Dominican organizations and universities. InteRDom, also known as Internships in the Dominican Republic, offers students the opportunity to participate in an academic and professional exchange program.

Over the summer, the five students have worked in a variety of professional fields with the following institutions: Sans Souci Ports, the Center for Exportations and Investment for the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD) and the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM). The Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the Centro Cultural León in Santiago also participated.

The academic part of InteRDom was coordinated by the Iberoamericana University (UNIBE). The students had classes on Caribbean Culture and History with the distinguished professors Pedro Cabiya and also Commercial Law with Sagrario Feliz Luciano in the School of Business Administration.

The students also had the opportunity to interview Dominican professionals who work in their areas of study as well as spending their weeks visiting important cultural and historical sites around the country.
  
GFDD/FUNGLODE have supported the program by continually monitoring the progress of the interns and evaluating their performance during their internships.

The Dominican businesses and organizations within the program have benefited from exchanging with the students, whose expertise and bilingual skills have aided them in developing fascinating short-term projects.  

The program’s objective is to raise levels of competitiveness and to create exchange conditions which are beneficial to both Dominican and foreign students.  

InteRDom will very shortly be offering Dominican students the opportunity to participate in its exchange program.

To participate in InteRDom you must be a student either at a university or higher education institution. When you finish your work placement, companies will provide a full written report on your internship which you can use as a reference for your university and future employment opportunities.
