GFDD at the Washington Summit on Climate Stabilization
Washington DC, September 18th-21st, 2006

GFDD will be participating in The Washington Summit on Climate Stabilization as the Climate Institute celebrates its 20th Anniversary, September 18-21, 2006.

It will be one of the non governmental organizations that sponsor this world-class gathering of experts to evaluate the chances of the world tilting to a rapid and extremely unsettling climate change.
The Washington Summit on Climate Stabilization will be a four day event during which international policy makers and stake holders will recognize the efforts of pioneering climate leaders; explore the implications in the intensity of severe whether events, melting rates of glaciers and ice sheets, severity drought and impacts on ecosystems and human health; discuss examples of corporate innovation making a difference and serving as an example for others. The gathering will also bring the opportunity to build partnerships with other committed organizations sharing the same interest in coastal protection, climate adaptation and climate stabilization.

The Climate Institute is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to inform key decision makers, heighten international awareness of climate change, and identify practical ways of achieving significant emissions reductions, in particular with the launching of the International Leadership Alliance of Climate Stabilization to develop coastal protection and conservation of the ecosystem as a coalition of the island nations.

CIEMADeS and Coral Gardens Projects Climate Change and the conservation of the environment are part of the objectives and agenda of GFDD/FUNGLODE developed through different programs, like CIEMADeS, the Coral Gardens Project in the Dominican Republic, among others.

On April 19 and 20, 2006, GFDD/FUNGLODE hosted in Santo Domingo an international conference on "Dominican Republic and Climate Change: Future Perspectives". Mr, Michael MacCracken from the Climate Institute was one of the keynote speakers on the occasion.
