The cultural event will consist of performances by the participants representing some of the cultural aspects of the Member States of the United Nations.  It is an opportunity for everyone to learn in a relaxed and fun environment.

There will be dance routines, a national costume parade and a flag guessing competition.  This activity will be on Thursday, 12th of October, at the theatre stage of the Barceló Caribe Hotel, at the Barceló Bávaro Complex, from 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm.

Dance Routines

The institutions interested in participating have to prepare a dance routine in reference to the culture of the country assigned to them for the cultural event.  Each group can only include a maximum of ten (10) performers for the dance and they do have the flexibility and choice of picking the music and wardrobe for their presentation.  The time designated for the dance choreography will be a maximum of four (4) minutes.
The countries available for this activity are the following:
Africa:
o Nigeria
o Egypt
o South Africa

Americas:
o Brazil
o Argentina
o Dominican Republic
o United States

Asia
o Lebanon
o Japan
o China

Europe
o Greece

o Russia
o Spain

Oceania
o Australia
o Palau
Presentation of national costumes of the international cultures
There will be a parade of 15 candidates showcasing the national costumes and wardrobe exclusive to the cultures of the different countries represented, with their selected national music in the background.
Flag guessing competition

Throughout the event, there will be an interactive competition where the participants have to guess the flags of the different member countries in the United Nations.

The requirements to participate are:

1. The institution or delegation interested in participating should contact
Mr. César Liriano or Ms. Diana Zuluaga, organizers of the event, in order to specify the country which they would like to represent.  Telephone numbers: 809-685-9966 Ext. 2311, 2004, 2201 or via email: encuentrocultural@unadr.org

2. The UNA-DR will officially confirm the country assignments to each institution, and the students should not begin preparing for their performances without this prior confirmation.

3. The proposed registration deadline is the 8th of September.  By this date, the groups who want to participate should send the registration form for the cultural event, including the name of the person responsible of the activity and the students who will be participating from the institution.

4. In order to verify the quality of the dance routines, the wardrobe and national costumes, the number of performers from each group and the time limit for each song, there will be auditions planned for Saturday morning, on the 30th of September.  The groups who will participate should also bring at least the wardrobe they will wear for the dance routines and country they represent, along with the CD and music selected for the activity.

Note: The designation of the countries to participate in the cultural event will depend on the country assignments to be represented at the International Conference of the Americas (CILA 2006).  Due to time and space constraints, it should be clear that the cultural event will not include all the countries represented in the Model UN.
