Alejandro Toledo

Toledo was one of sixteen children of an indigenous family. At age 16, after having been a street child and with the guidance of members of the Peace Corps, Toledo obtained his BA from the University of San Francisco. He also got a Master's in Economics, a Master's in Education and completed his Ph.D. in Education at Stanford University. After a long career with the InterAmerican Development Bank, the World Bank, the International Labor Organization, and other international organizations, he entered politics in 1995 opposing Fujimori at the time of his re-election. After a couple more attempts, he gained the presidency of Peru in 2001.  His term just expired July 28, 2006.
