GFDD/ FUNGLODE Formally Inaugurate the Global Media Arts Institute
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, November 13th, 2006
Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), formally introduced the Global Media Arts Institute during a ceremony in the FUNGLODE headquarters in Santo Domingo. This was one of the activities included in the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival (DRGFF), which took place from November 8th-12th.
The act was lead by Natasha Despotovic, Executive Director of GFDD and DRGFF Director. The presentation was made to various actors, film and television producers, etc. Mrs. Despotovic emphasized the efforts of both institutions in promoting audiovisual training in the Dominican Republic. The Institute works with various partners like New York Universities Opportunities Program, One Race Films Company, and Miami Dade Community College. She also stated that “as of today the institute has trained over 150 people through the various programs the Institute provides”. For example, she cited “this year we had a 3 week film production course, various workshops which included topics like script writing and lighting”.
The objective of the Institute is to offer courses for professional training, for those students with no previous experience and also to those with vast experience in the industry but want to keep updating their knowledge.
As part of the film festival, the Institute offered various workshops on different topics, such as: “How to make documentaries”; “The Development of the Film Industry in the Dominican Republic”; etc.
