DR Global Film Festival partake in the 2007 Miami International Film Festival
Miami. March 14th, 2007.
Several members of the DR Global Film Festivalteam, led by its Director, Natasha Despotovic, attended the Miami International Film Festival (MIFF) 2007 that took place March 2-11, 2007.
The Miami International Film Festival, a well established international festival presenting documentaries, dramatic feature films, animation, shorts, retrospectives, etc competing under several categories, provided an excellent networking opportunity for the DRGFF team, introducing our Festival and its objectives to a wide representation of today’s studio and independent filmmakers, actors, directors, and industry specialists and managers.
The DRGFF team also had the opportunity to know the operation of a big festival from close range, shadowing some of the activities, getting acquainted with their work systems and structure. It was as well a timely occasion to spot potential films for our Festival and identify trends and themes
Furthermore, the DRGFF and MIFF share values and objectives in our attempt to go beyond the commercial aspect of the film industry and bring to the public opportunities to think and consider their personal world and the challenges posed by the world surrounding them.
The DR Global Film Festival 2007 will take place November 14-18 and will bring again to the Dominican public the best of the international scene with thought-provoking and out of the ordinary films that will stimulate their brains and touch their hearts. This year the festival will expand to include screening sites in Higuey and Nagua, in addition to the four sites in Santo Domingo, Santiago and Puerto Plata.
The Festival is a GFDD/FUNGLODE initiative to develop and cultivate a community of filmmakers in the Dominican Republic, train young individuals through the Global Media Arts Institute in TV and cinema production, and attract studios and independent producers to shoot their films in the Dominican Republic.
