GFDD/FUNGLODE and Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano (FNPI) collaborated to offer the workshop "Journalism and the Democratic Processes"
Santo Domingo, February 21-25, 2005

Within the framework agreement signed between FNPI and FUNGLODE, the course "Journalism and the Democratic Process" was dictated in the foundation's headquarters in Santo Domingo from February 21st to 25th, 2005. The objective of this course was to gather journalists from different media in order to stimulate and promote the dialogue and exchange around their own experiences, strategies and tools to improve their coverage on political issues, particularly on electoral processes. Colombian journalists María Teresa Ronderos and Javier Darío Restrepo directed the course to 9 journalists from Argentina, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela, Mexico and Nicaragua. Also, 10 Dominican journalists participated in the activity .

The FNPI was funded in 1994 by Nobel Prize Laureate Gabriel García Marquez with the objective of training journalists and promoting the exchange of knowledge among them. The 2002 agreement between FUNGLODE and FNPI aims at providing training scholarships for Dominican journalists as
well as organizing other educational activities in common areas of interest.

With this workshop, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano (FNPI) initiated a series of joint programs directed to enrich and support the professional development of journalist in the Dominican Republic , Caribbean and Latin America in general.
