Dr. Leonel Fernández, President of the Dominican Republic and honorary President of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, announced the creation of a Consultative Board in New York whose mission is the implementation of the recommended actions included in the book "Strategic Alliance between the Dominican Republic and New York City ". During the event, Mrs. María Elizabeth Rodríguez, Director of the FUNGLODE Project Dominican Republic- New York City presented the results of the study. Mrs. Rodríguez and Dr. Hernández are the book's co-editors. In her presentation, she mentioned that the study, accomplished by Dominican academics living in NY, is to create a sustainable platform to promote the implementation of relevant policies, as well as to encourage the development of exchange projects. She also recommended to create a public institution for the Dominican community in the U.S. , improve the Dominican consulate services, improve the relationship between Dominican individuals living abroad and their respective embassies and consulates and support the diasporas networks to leverage their influence in the U.S. and other countries.

Dr. Fernández is planning to visit New York City in early March for the official appointment of Consultative Board members.
