EXPERTS FROM BAYLOR UNIVERSITY HOPE TO CREATE THE FIRST WORLD'S GREEN AIRPORT IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Experts from Baylor University delivered the conference "Energy and Environment in the Dominican Republic", an event that is part of a series of events planned with this educational institution to discuss issues related to energy, pollution and the environment in the Dominican Republic.

During the event, experts explained their intention of building the first World's Green Airport in the Dominican Republic. The Green airport will be a model of environmental sustainability showcasing a mix of renewable energies such as sun, wind, photovoltaic, biomass energy and biofuels, readily available on the island. The Green Airport will comprise programs to develop the Dominican Republic as an international base for high visibility activities, including an international center of excellence for pilot training, education and air quality monitoring, the first in the world powered totally by renewable energy.

The conference was followed by a course that contained a through explanation on the project as well as other areas related to the environment and development, such as renewable energies and sustainable development, biofuels and biogas production, economics, and politics of implementation, sun, wind, photovoltaics and fuel cells on sea, ground and sky.

Experts who contributed to the planning of the project were also present at the conference and course, including Mr. Max Shauck, Chairman and Dr. Grazia Zanin, Director of Investigation of the Baylor Insitute for Air Science of Baylor University as well as a panel of the institute's expert advisors including Bill Holmberg, Paul MacCready, Volker Monhen and Andreas Zellweger. These individuals are internationally renowned experts in the fields of energy and environment.

The conference and course was a combined effort made by Baylor University , Fundación Global Desarrollo y Democracia (FUNGLODE) and Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD). The objective of this activity was to promote the formation of partnerships around the topic of energy and environment and contribute to the work done by Baylor University and promoted by FUNGLODE and GFDD.
