| SEMINAR ON THE IMPORTANCE OF CERTIFICATIONS IN EDUCATION
February 21, 2006. Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), in association with the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (SEE for its Spanish acronyms) and Microsoft, hosted a one-day seminar on the importance of certifications in education.
This seminar is part of the "Partners in Learning", a Microsoft program, in which they partner with Government, Ministries of Education, and other key stakeholders to offer a spectrum of education resources -tools, programs, and practices- to empower students and teachers to realize their full potential. The fundamental premise of this vision is that technology in education can be a powerful catalyst to promote learning and that education changes lives, families, communities, and ultimately nations.
Colombian expert, Oscar Cantillo, and José Quevedo, from Argentina, were the speakers of the seminar.
Paul Goris, Education and Technology coordinator for FUNGLODE, welcomed the guests. The speakers were introduced by Julio Valeiron, a representative from the Ministry of Education. Both Goris and Valeiron highlighted the impact that 'Partners in Learning' has had over more than 1,000 Dominican teachers.
In the Dominican Republic, the Partners in Learning Program is being implemented through FUNGLODE and the Secretary of Education. GFDD serves as a coordinating and supervising body, in close collaboration with Microsoft.
