Partners in Learning Program with Microsoft

Under the program "Partners in Learning", Microsoft partners with Government, Ministries of Education, and other key stakeholders to offer a spectrum of education resources-tools, programs, and practices-to empower students and teachers to realize their full potential. The fundamental premise of this vision is that technology in education can be a powerful catalyst to promote learning and that education changes lives, families, communities, and ultimately nations.
In the Dominican Republic, the Partners in Learning Program is being implemented through FUNGLODE and the Secretary of Education. GFDD serves as a coordinating and supervising body, in close collaboration with Microsoft.
Objectives of the Program:
• Promote the application of Information and Communications Technologies to education in the Dominican Republic
• Support teachers' professional training;
• Encourage innovative methods of teaching and learning in schools throughout the Dominican Republic .
As part of the program FUNGLODE and the Microsoft Corporation gave 100 scholarships to teachers for computer program courses. The scholarships were given to the first 100 teachers who obtained a computer at the II Compumaestro Festival, which took place in Santiago de los Caballeros from March 30th to April 3rd. The scholarship has a value of US$100.00 and the course includes training on Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint.
Also, a series of training programs in the use of ICT in education take place at the FUNGLODE headquarters in Santo Domingo . For example, courses in digital storytelling, MOUS (Microsoft Office User Specialist ) certification, web page development, use of FLASH in Internet, development of educational software, among others, are permanently being offered to public and private school teachers.
