FUNGLODE from the Dominican Republic, GFDD from the US, La Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano (FNPI) and the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) awarded a complete scholarship for the workshop “How to write for a newspaper”

During the first week of the workshop, which took place in Cartagena, Colombia from July 18th to August 23rd, 2005, the scholarship recipient had the opportunity to review the current work developed by the world’s most important newspapers, learning from the different types of genres in journalism. During the following three weeks, the students engaged in dynamic practices simulating the daily work at a Newspaper.

The workshop was dictated by Miguel Ángel Bastenier, Deputy Director for International Relations of the Spanish newspaper El Pais. Mr. Bastenier obtained his undergraduate studies at the University of Barcelona and attended the Escuela Oficial of Madrid to obtain his degree in Journalism. During the past years he has published numerous books in the fields of journalism and international relations. Mr. Bastenier is an expert in International Relations and has been working for El Pais for the past 13 years.

GFDD and FUNGLODE’ support to the recipient of this scholarship is part of their commitment to contribute with the professional actualization of different sectors of society in the Dominican Republic. Also, the collaboration between GFDD - FUNGLODE and with FNPI is part of an agreement signed in 2004 whose objective focuses on contributing to the professional actualization of journalists in the region.
