Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience --Now You Can Watch Online!

Following its successful screening in 13 international festivals and after winning three prestigious awards, Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience is now available online for free at GFDD Youtube Channel. The 17-minute documentary, produced by GFDD, is one of its kind in its genre in the country, that shows us how recycling has become a significant economic opportunity for Dominicans.

GFDD/Funglode and the prestigious New York Film Academy (NYFA) signed an agreement today under which Dominican film students pursuing academic film programs in the United States will receive a 25% tuition fees discount and will also have the possibility of taking courses in the Dominican Republic. The president of GFDD/Funglode and former president of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Leonel Fernández, signed the agreement in January  in New York City, together with the president of NYFA, Michael Young, at the Manhattan offices of the film school. The agreement represents a milestone in the history of the Dominican film industry.

Presentation of Research Study "The Elimination of Violence against Women" at the UN during CSW 59

Dominican Night at EFF in DC

GFDD will be showing two Dominican films, Lago Enriquillo and Mañana at the Gala Hispanic Theatre as part of the Environmental Film Festival’s programa. There will be a panel discussion with Natasha Despotovic, GFDD’s Executive Director, as well as filmmakers Carlos García and Fernando Báez following the screening.

Join GFDD/Funglode and UNA-DR for the 10th Annual Edition of the Dominican Model United Nations Conference in New York

We inviting Dominican schools, universities and students to participate in this event,  the only academic event that is held in Spanish language in the Hall of the United Nations General Assembly. Delegates will be able to cast their votes on the draft resolutions from the seats of the official representatives of the 193 Member States of the United Nations Organization.

When: Sunday, March 29 to April 2
Where: Grand Hyatt Hotel in the Hall of the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization in New York.

DID YOU KNOW?

A few days ago 90 young brave Dominican students climbed the highest mountain in the Caribbean in the 12th Educational Expedition to Pico Duarte, under GFDD´s iniciative RDescrube. As part of the event, organized in collaboration with Siempre Más Foundation, participants of the Politécnico Ann & Ted Kheel of Verón, La Altagracia; Politécnico Femenino Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes, and Liceo Hermano Miguel, Santiago, made various environmental activities including a cleanup in the Tetero Valley, where they removed about 300 pounds of waste, with the help of the mules of the expedition. Since the first expedition of RDescubre in March 2012 hundreds of students across the country have had the opportunity to participate in this adventure that changes their lives.

At the Festival International du Film D’ Environnement in ParisDuring one week, from 3 to 10 February, the Director of the DREFF, Natasha Despotovic, and Director of Digital Media and Print Material, Semiramis de Miranda, participated in the event and in the meetings that GFN traditionally held during the festival. "FIFE is an excellent opportunity, not only to see some of the best productions of the year, but to generate contacts, exchange ideas and build networks with some of the most important environmental festivals in the world," said Despotovic.
