Founded in 1990, the Canadian Foundation for the Americas is an independent policy institute, based in Ottawa, that fosters informed analysis and debate on social, political and economic issues facing the Americas. We support a greater understanding of these issues in Canada and throughout the region. In March 2006 FOCAL and GFDD/FUNGLODE signed a 5-year agreement on technical cooperation, diplomatic and international matters, and professional trainings and research projects.

Established in 1959, the mission of Miami-Dade Community College is to make high-quality education available to the multi-cultural community that it serves at a reasonable cost. It has the highest number of minority graduates in the country. FUNGLODE/GFDD and Miami-Dade Community College have collaborated in several programs related to information technology.

The City University of New York (CUNY) originated in 1847 with the foundation of the Free Academy, which later became The City College, the first College at CUNY. According to the Education Law of the State of New York, CUNY is "a free institution of higher education independent and integrated, and assumes that the university will maintain and expand its commitment to academic excellence." CUNY has 11 senior colleges, 6 community colleges, a graduate school, a Law School and the "Sophie Davies" School of Biomedical Education. It has a population of 450,000 students. President Leonel Fernández, President of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, GFDD, signed an agreement with CUNY to conduct educational and research exchanges. Prior to this agreement, both institutions have collaborated in several research programs.

The Council of the Americas is the leading U.S. business organization dedicated to promoting regional economic integration, free trade, open markets and investment, and the rule of law throughout the diverse regions within the Western Hemisphere. Global Foundation follows up closely its valuable work, and participates regularly in its discussion forums and conferences. The XXXIV Annual Conference took place at the State Department on May 3 and the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development was represented by its Executive Director, Ms. Natasha Despotovich.

Inter-American Dialogue

The Inter-American Dialogue is the premier center for policy analysis, exchange, and communication on issues in Western Hemisphere affairs. The Dialogue engages public and private leaders from across the Americas in efforts to develop and mobilize support for cooperative responses to key hemispheric problems and opportunities. By invitation from Mr. Peter Hakim, President of the Inter-American Dialogue, Dr. Leonel Fernández was elected as member in February 2, 2001. The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development has collaborated with this think tank in several occasions.

International Law Institute

Since its founding as part of Georgetown University in 1955, the ILI has provided training and technical assistance to find practical solutions to the legal, economic and financial problems of developing countries training over 12,000 officials, managers, and professionals from more than 180 countries since its first seminar in 1971. Since 1983, ILI has been an independent, non-profit educational institution serving an international constituency of government officials, legal and business professionals and scholars from its headquarters in Washington, D.C. ILI's mission is to raise levels of professional competence and capacity in all nations so that professionals everywhere may achieve practical solutions to common problems in ways that suit their nations' own needs. In March 2004, President Leonel Fernández, on behalf of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development signed and agreement with the ILI to collaborate in projects related to finance, public a dministration, law and governance.

Inter-American Agency for Cooperation and Development

As part of the ongoing process of modernization of the Organization of American States, the Inter-American Agency for Cooperation and Development (IACD) was established at the beginning of 2000 to promote new and more effective forms of cooperation between its member states and to enhance partnerships with the private sector and civil society. The IACD's mission is to tap the considerable capabilities of the member and observer states of the Organization of American States (OAS) and forge new private/public-sector partnerships to help the people of the Americas overcome poverty, benefit from the digital revolution and advance their economic and social development. The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development has an agreement of cooperation with the IACD and both institutions have partnered in several programs related to information and education technology.

Florida International University - Miami's public research university - is one of America's most dynamic institutions of higher learning. Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, GFDD , has conducted several joint programs with FIU. President Leonel Fernández signed an agreement of collaboration with FIU April 30, 2003, when the "Strategic Alliance Dominican Republic-Florida" was launched.
