Now Receiving Entries for 2008 GFDD/FUNGLODE Awards
April 23 – October 1, 2008

The 2008 GFDD/FUNGLODE Awards submission period has begun.
Entries will be accepted until 4:00 pm on October 1, 2008 at FUNGLODE’s office in Santo Domingo and GFDD’s offices in Washington, DC and New York.

The Awards recognize excellence in the areas of literature, journalism, filmmaking and photography. Prizes will be awarded in the categories of: Poetry, Essay, Short Story, Novel, Journalism, Short Film, Documentary Film and Photography. This year the contest will also be open to legal residents who have lived in the Dominican Republic for a duration of at least five years.

2008 International Conference of the Americas
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, October 15-19, 2008

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), the United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic (UNA-DR) and the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) are pleased to announce the 2008 edition of the International Conference of the Americas (CILA 2008), scheduled to take place at the Barceló Bávaro Convention Center in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, October 15-19, 2008.

CILA 2008 will serve as a meeting point for more than 1,500 young people from the Dominican Republic, Latin America and other regions of the world. During the International Conference, students will work together in a diplomatic and cooperative environment in search for solutions to the challenges that confront the international community. The Conference will simulate 12 organs and commissions of the United Nations and other multilateral institutions, and offer seminars, conferences, exhibitions and social and cultural activities about topics directly related to the Millennium Development Goals.

The working languages of the Conference will be Spanish, English and French.
