New York - Dominican Republic Strategic Alliance
Considering the importance and incidence of the Dominican Community in the City of New York for the Dominican Republic, link that to the date has not reached its potential, the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and its sister institution in the U.S., Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), whose president and founder is Dr. Leonel Fernández, have taken the initiative of elaborating the project "New York - Dominican Republic Strategic Alliance." This project aims to assess the Dominican reality in New York, in order to develop a short/medium/long term Action Plan, which will include activities, programs and policies beneficial to the Dominican Community both abroad and in the homeland.
With this purpose in mind, we wish to invite various public and private institutions (academic, associations, NGOs, and local leaders) in New York with a track record in the development of the Dominican Community. Together, we will strengthen the existing cooperation links and find new ones. The research and cooperation areas are immigration, education, health, trade and investment, remittances, culture, sports, among others.
The project is organized in work groups by topic areas, and the objective is to offer recommendations through an Action Plan. The goal is to promote, deepen and facilitate the collaboration and exchange between the Dominican Republic and New York, the second largest city in the world with regards to Dominican population. The creation of a follow-up committee will ensure the implementation of the projects approved.
A similar project has already been initiated by the Global Foundation in the state of Florida ("Building a Strategic Alliance: Dominican Republic and the State of Florida.").
