Global Foundation for Democracy and Development - GFDD

About Virtual Educa Caribbean 2008
Virtual Educa Caribe 2008, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), offers a discussion space, in which public and private sector representatives from Latin America, the Caribbean, the United States and Europe can share experiences and innovative methods concerning the use of technology as a tool in teaching and learning processes, and the creation of a platform for the discussion and promotion of new technologies used for development and training, in order to elevate labor efficiency, and ultimately economic growth and competitiveness in the country.

Education, capacity building and training have left the classroom and can be found all around us. Learning has become a continuing activity, without limits. If education was always necessary for national development, now it is indispensable. The benefits of education increase exponentially. Opportunities for learning can be found all around us. The public need to learn how to locate these opportunities, likewise, available opportunities must be made accessible to the public.

The approach of this new technological-educational-economic paradigm is fundamental to the design of a successful strategy for national sustainable development and competitiveness. Virtual Educa 2008 wants to explore this paradigm, and invites you to join in the exploration, together with experts, government officials and representatives from private and civil society sectors that propose viable alternatives that facilitate access to quality information, allow for the creation of a responsible and productive citizenry, and enable the nation to confront technological and economic challenges. Virtual Educa Caribe, headquartered in the Dominican Republic, was launched in Santo Domingo during the Inter-American Forum on New Technologies, which took place April 24-25, 2006.
