Entrepreneurial Commitment to Education to be Debated at Virtual Educa Caribe 2006

Virtual Educa Caribe 2006, will present the experiences of private corporations all across America under the Inter-American Forum on New Technologies, showing how the use of technologies can create jobs and enhance the country’s development.

During the event to take place in Santo Domingo, April 24-27, 2006, at FUNGLODE, corporate initiatives from Mexico,
Brazil, Chile, among others, will be explored. In addition, the Colombian program "Entrepreneurs for Education" (EPSE for its Spanish initials), which gathers more than one hundred corporations facilitating teaching in dozens of Colombian schools, will also be described.

High officials from the education and technology fields, entrepreneurs, teachers, professors, and students, will be the main participants on the Forum, which will also focus in the analysis of corporate social responsibility aspects.

Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), are organizing this forum as part of the Interamerican
Summit, with the collaboration of private and public institutions, as well as non-governmental organizations, both local and from abroad.

The forum includes a series of presentations, to be held at FUNGLODE Auditorium, with the main objective to support initiatives contributing to the expansion of the economy and creating new jobs through the use of ICTs.

The event is part of Virtual Educa, a program of the Inter-American Summit since 2004, when it was designated of "especial interest" at the XIV Summit held in Costa Rica, which develops innovative multi-sector initiatives in education, professional training and continuing education.

FUNGLODE and GFDD will announce the registration calendar to all interested in participating in this event, a great opportunity to be part
of the actions taken by the Inter-American Cooperation Ministry, to build up long term development plans for the region.

Other collaborating institutions in this event are: the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL), the National Committee on Competitiveness (CNC), the Presidential Office for Information and Communication Technologies (OPTIC), the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (SEESCYT), the Ministry of Education (SEE), and Las Americas
Technological Institute (ITLA).
