GFDD and FUNGLODE Host the Discussion about Corporate Social Responsibility at the OAS Headquarters

April 10, 2013

On April 4, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and FUNGLODE, in cooperation with Comunidad Interamericana de Responsabilidad Social and the Organization of American States (OAS) will host a discussion about Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the OAS headquarters in Washington DC. The highlight of the event will be the presentation “Banco de Reservas: An Example of Corporate Social Responsibility” delivered by Maria Jose
Bengoa.

In the contemporary world, a modern business model compulsory encompasses, in addition to a traditional “maximizing profits,” ethical standards. Today companies are expected to meet public interests applying, to their everyday activities, holistic and round actions known as CSR strategies.

This unique event will feature the Dominican Republic as an example in building business ethics on the national level. During the lunch time session the participants will join in the discussion about CSR initiatives, such as the Dominican Green Globe Award and Voluntariado Banreservas program. The Dominican Green Globe Award is a project that seeks to motivate Dominican youth to audio-visualize production processes in order to raise awareness of the importance of environmental and
sustainable development, whereas Voluntariado Banreservas is a program implemented by Banco de Reservas which, since its inception in 1941, is the first Dominican financial institution that through its programs strongly promotes music, literature, education, sports and art in the Dominican Republic.

The president of the “Voluntariado Banreservas” program, Maria Jose Bengoa, will provide the audience with invaluable information about it. Banreservas
Volunteering was initiated in 1999-2000 by the wife of the former general manager of Banreservas, Jatna Tavarez, to provide assistance to those who were in need in Dominican society. Over time, the project has grown and expanded its “program area” to health care, cultural and social events, community work, environment protection and business performance. Today Banreservas Volunteering is an exemplary project of solidarity and social commitment, and “the best
response to society that entrusted in us.”
