Screening of documentary film Bag it! followed by Recycled Art Workshop The DR Environmental Film Festival is pleased to screen the film Bag it! at Samana's Café Paris, in an attempt to raise awareness among the population of the trash epidemic facing many coastal areas in the Dominican Republic. The event will be carried out in collaboration with the Vice-Ministry of Coastal and Marine Resources in Samaná, and is open to the public at large. Following the screening, artist Bertha Santana will be onsite to carry out a brief workshop that will demonstrate to participants how one can reutilize and refashion items considered trash, such as old t-shirts, into stylish new accessories. Pico Duarte Student Certification Dominican Get-togethers in the Big Apple, in partnership with the Association of Veganos in New York, will be hosting a screening Centro Cuesta Nacional’s film Discover La Vega: Pride of my Land, which takes readers on a journey through the rich cultural, historical, agricultural and musical heritage of the province of La Vega, in the central region of the Dominican Republic. It is the first of a series of films to be produced by CNN highlighting the unique features of each of the provinces of the country and will be featuring a prominent figure from La Vega to speak about the riches of the region. The initiative is part of GFDD’s mission to promote understanding and appreciation of Dominican culture, values and heritage, and to create opportunities for discussions on contemporary issues relevant to Dominican society in the homeland and abroad.
