Audience Braves Cold to Attend GFDD’s Environmental Short Film at Princeton’s Eco-Fest

In complete contrast to the deep chill outside, a warm-hearted welcome was afforded to those souls that braved freezing temperatures to attend the screening of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development’s Short Film "Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience" at the 8th Annual Princeton Environmental Film Festival (PEFF) at Princeton Public Library on January 31st.

The 17 minute short
film, which premiered at the III DR Environmental Film Festival this past September in the Dominican Republic, and has since  been recognized at two important European Environment Film Festivals later in 2013, can now add United States to its debut list. (View Synopsis | View Trailer).

Audiences were rewarded by an informative and entertaining depiction of  the inspiring situation in the Dominican Republic, making the short film an educational piece that can serve as a call to action.  Additionally, the film’s message and its portrayal, makes people sit up and think before using the  term worthless "garbage". Instead, it can be viewed
and acknowledged as  “discarded material,” with is an invaluable resource and raw material which can be recycled into a whole new product.

After the presentation of the film, GFDD’s  New York Office Director, Yamile Eusebio, and one of the film’s producer and editors, Angel Castellanos, discussed with the public the importance of having  this kind of material to help promote cultural changes whilst at the same time, creating initiatives that convert this “problem” into an opportunity for positive development.

Conlon and the Associate Festival Director, Kim Dorman gave the welcome remarks and thanked GFDD for their participation, and for taking a lead with its staunch, unwavering commitment to raising awarenss on environmental issues.

About the Princeton Environmental Film Festival (PEFF)
The Princeton Environmental Film Festival is a program of the Princeton Public Library and is held annually in the winter at 65 Witherspoon Street
in downtown Princeton, NJ. Founded in 2006, the PEFF’s mission is to share exceptional documentary films and engage the community in exploring "a sense of place" – to find a meaning in people’s connection to their home and the planet. Traditionally, the Festival’s screenings are accompanied by a Q&A with film directors and producers, as well as other talks by invited speakers who visit for the festival or live in Princeton community.
With the festival growing every year, the organizers are mindful to expand their reach while keeping the PEEF character focused on being a great and special local event.
