Conclusion of InteRDom PRO Opens Doors for Future Collaboration

March 18, 2012

InteRDom PRO: Professional Externship for Professors and Administrators came to a close on Saturday, March 17th.  The six participating professors and administrators met with InteRDom representatives individually to discuss all that they had seen over the past three days, and the best ways that the program can serve them and their students going forward.

The final day’s activities also included a tour of the Juan Bosch Library at Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), a presentation on the Fellows Program, by way of a virtual connection with the Program Manager in New York, Kerry Stefancyk, a trip to view the indigenous cave art in the Cave of Wonders in La Romana and a goodbye dinner overlooking the Caribbean Sea.

The four days of activities opened the doors for professors and study abroad and career services administrators to construct their own programs based on Caribbean topics that will open doors to professional and academic opportunities for students as early as this coming summer. Cultural activities, including a tour of the historic Colonial Zone and the visit to the Cave of Wonders, highlighted the rich history and cultural diversity of the country as important learning
destination.

InteRDom PRO was launched in 2010 as an initiative aiming to introduce university representatives to the facilities, structure and services of the InteRDom program.  It contributes to elevate the visibility of the Dominican Republic on U.S. campuses, as well as to promote international students and the capacities as potential collaborators in the social, political and economic development of the Dominican Republic.

The event complements the mission of InteRDom’s parent institutions Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) to create partnerships and exchanges that will increase the visibility of the Dominican Republic on international campuses and generate research on the development of the country.
