Dominican Baseball Greats Albert Pujols and Juan Marichal Shine as Guests of Honor at the 23rd GFDD Golf Tournament in New York

The traditional sporting and charity event annually brings together business leaders, philanthropists, and golf enthusiasts with the goal to support development programs in the Dominican Republic.

Santo Domingo, September 22nd, 2025 – The Harrison Meadows Country Club in Harrison, New York, was the perfect setting to bring together and strengthen the solidarity network that has characterized the GFDD 2025 Golf Tournament. This year the tournament is celebrating its 23^rd anniversary. The much-awaited tournament was held on Monday, September 22.

The GFDD Golf Tournament has managed through its more than two decades to combine sport, networking, and philanthropy to benefit the programs supported by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD). The President of Funglode, Dr. Leonel Fernandez, interacted with the participating players during the event.

The tournament, played under a shotgun tee-time format, brought together a significant group of business leaders, philanthropists, and golf enthusiasts who supported GFDD’s mission: to promote social, economic, and democratic development in the Dominican Republic and its diaspora.

The day was marked by an atmosphere of camaraderie and enthusiasm, crowned by the presence of two Dominican baseball legends and members of the Cooperstown Hall of Fame: Albert Pujols and Juan Marichal. Both were welcomed as the tournament´s guests of honor. Their participation brought a special brilliance to the tournament, reinforcing the connection between sport, culture, and social commitment.

The event concluded with an elegant awards dinner, where the winning players were recognized and the tournament’s positive impact on strengthening the education, research, and sustainable development programs promoted by the Foundation was highlighted.
