“Dominican Gastro Tour in New York” Seeks to Highlight the Dominican Food Scene

With the goal of highlighting and sharing the cooking traditions of the Dominican Diaspora in New York City, a series of events will be held that bring together gastronomy and digital communication. The activities will include a gastro tour of Dominican restaurants, a workshop on food writing and a discussion on Dominican gastronomy and digital communication at the Dominican Book Fair in New York.

The gastro tour that will take place between October 9 to
11 will stop at different restaurants and establishments that have been recognized for bringing attention to Dominican plates and food products. The tour will be shared simultaneously through social media so that audiences in New York and the Dominican Republic can live the experience.

The food tour is part of a platform for communication and digital sharing of the cuisine of the Dominican Diaspora in New York which is being done alongside the workshop “Food Writing for Foodies” and the discussion “Digital Communication and its Role in Spreading Dominican Food” included in the list of activities for the XI Dominican Book Fair in New York.

These events are organized by the
Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), through its initiative that promotes Dominican culture in New York and are led by Elaine Hernández, Foodblogger and Dominican food journalist.  

The workshop “Food Writing for Foodies” will take place Friday October 12 from 9:00AM to 1:00PM in the meeting hall of the well-known Dominican restaurant in New York, “809” and is directed toward cooks, food journalists, bloggers
and influencers interested in using writing as a strategy to highlight attributes of food products and brands.

Space for the workshop is limited and participation will have a fee of US$25. Those interested can reserve their spot through Eventbrite.

The discussion “Digital Communication and its Role in Spreading Dominican Food” will complete the series of events dedicated to the sharing of Dominican cuisine amongst the Diaspora in
New York. This event will take place on Saturday October 13 at 12:20PM in the Manuel del Cabral Hall of the Dominican Commission of Culture (CODOCUL, for its initials in Spanish).
