Gaillard is also co-presenter of the television program “Global Youth” which is produced by FUNGLODE and the UNA-DR and is broadcasted every Sunday on the channel Antena Latina. He was chosen over seven other candidates from all over the world
for the position. The young Dominican, YES coordinator for the country, received the largest number of votes from outside his region, gaining a total of 65% from national coordinators from Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America.

Republic is based at the UNA-DR’s headquarters in Santo Domingo.

YES is ten-year long campaign which aims to promote entrepreneurial spirit and sustainable ways of life amongst young people. The campaign was launched in Alexandria, Egypt in 2002 at an activity attended by Bill Clinton and Suzane Mubarak, Egypt’s First Lady. Since then, many internationally renowned figures from a variety of fields have come together to show their support for the
initiative. Amongst them are Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute, University of Columbia; Carlos Magariños, Director of ONUDI and Mohammad Yunnus, founder of the Grameen Bank and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006.

The World Summit for Youth Employment takes place every two years, most recently this September in Nairobi, Kenya. President Leonel Fernández was invited by Mwai Kibaki to act as co chairman of the event, although he was
unable to attend due to prior commitments.
The Regional Latin American YES meeting will take place in the Dominican Republic in August 2007.
