GFDD and FUNGLODE Host Forum on Democratic Stability in the Americas

GFDD/FUNGLODE hosted a forum on "Democratic Stability in the Americas: The Institutional Role of the OAS", a joint effort with the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Canadian Government, in the context of the celebration of the Thirty-Sixth Regular Session of the OAS General Assembly, held in Santo Domingo, June 4-6.

The forum was
presided by José Miguel Insulza, OAS Secretary General, and Alejandra Liriano, Dominican Foreign Affairs Under-Secretary and Director of the International Studies Center of FUNGLODE.

Insulza, in his opening remarks, emphasized the importance of the strategic strengthening of the OAS institutional capacities in order to respond effectively and promptly to the democratic challenges continuously faced by the region.

The forum, held
at FUNGLODE Auditorium in Santo Domingo, focused on regional experiences and efforts to preserve and strengthen democratic institutions, drawing on specific examples from 2005.
