November 15, 2013
Since 2000, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has conducted the Annual IDB Civil Society Meetings. Representatives meet with members of the Civil Society Consulting Groups (ConSocs) and civil society institutions in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. The purpose of these meetings is to address issues of concern to civil society, while the IDB receives comments and suggestions from scholars and non-governmental leaders to improve performance in the
region.

Meeting
GFDD and FUNGLODE, as established members of the ConSoc, participated in the XIII Annual IDB – Civil Society gathering, that was held on November 14 and 15, 2013 in Cali, Colombia. Both organizations were represented by Yamile Eusebio, who is
both Director of GFDD’s New York office, and FUNGLODE’s Director of Formative Activities Program. The agenda was designed in collaboration with ConSOC to reflect the diversity of interests of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in an inclusive and participatory approach. The central theme of the meeting was "Inclusion: An Engine for Development."
In this thirteenth meeting, CSOs had the opportunity to exchange experiences, learn
best practices and methodologies in the areas of inclusion, strengthening civil society, transparency, education, technology, and security, among others.
The Dominican Republic was represented by other institutions and ConSoc members, such as Bernardo Montero from the Association of Persons with Physical Disability (ASODIFIMO) and Juan Castillo of the Solidarity Foundation.
With a major Colombian participation of over 69 percent, participants included
more than 350 people from some 300 civil society institutions associated with the IDB.
The IDB Vice President for Countries, Roberto Vellutini, attended the two-day meeting. He honored the attendees with a dialogue that gave them the opportunity to exchange views and make proposals for future papers between the IDB and the Civil Society.
About ConSOCs
The Civil Society Consulting Group (ConSOC) is a forum
for exchanging information, strengthening dialogue, and facilitating ongoing consultations between the IDB and the civil society organizations (CSOs) that are pertinent to the Bank’s work in the countries where it operates. The ConSOCs do not have legal status, nor should they be treated as a substitute mechanism to those already available at the IDB.
