GFDD and FUNGLODE Support Dominican Theatre Play in New York’s Upper Manhattan

On the heels of the huge success of the theatre play "MARÍA MONTEZ, 100 YEARS," by Luis Dantes-Castillo, recently presented at the National Theater, Palace of Fine Arts, in Dominican Republic’s provinces of Barahona and in Baní, comes the story of the first Dominican who triumphed in Hollywood. The glorious piece of theatre was being shown October 1-7 2013 at the "BARAHONA PATRON SAINT CELEBRATIONS IN NEW YORK." with the support
of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and FUNGLODE.

The theater company Alta Escena and its Director, Bienvenido Miranda, together with the play’s author, Luis Dantes-Castillo, received strong support from the Dominican community during its first appearance at the PS78 School in Upper Manhattan. A rare collection of posters, the only one of its kind in the world, of 26 films made by
María Montez was also on display. GFDD’s NY Director, Yamile Eusebio, who attended the play at the weekend said; "Audiences can appreciate the beauty of this collection and learn more about the life of this talented Dominican whose prestigious internationally recognied work fills us with a sense of pride and joy".

On Saturday, October 12, there is a scheduled presentation of the play in the city of Providence, Road Island. The presentation will
take place at 7 pm, in the auditorium of the Providence Career & Technical Academy (PCTA), located at 41 Fricker Street, Providence, R.I., under the production of the Ecas Theater Company and its Director, Francis Parra.

The cast of the play consists of the actors: Amarilis Rodríguez, Giamilka Román, Olga Valdez, Judith Rodríguez, and the participation of Luis Dantes-Castillo, the author of the play, under the direction of Bienvenido Miranda
Moreno.
