GFDD and FUNGLODE to Deliver Intervention on Financing for Development during High-Level Meeting of ECOSOC with the Bretton Woods Institutions, the WTO and UNCTAD

For the third time, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) will deliver an intervention regarding its stance on financing for development during the 2013 High-Level Meeting of the Economic and Social Council with the Bretton Woods Institutions, the World Trade Organization and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development,
“Coherence, coordination and cooperation in the context of Financing for Development and the post 2015 development agenda,” scheduled to take place April  22, at United Nations headquarters in New York City. The plenary will be opened by the UN Secretary-General, who will present a High-level Panel of Ministers will be held on the following theme “World Economic Situation and Prospects in the Wake of the World Financial and Economic
Crisis.”

In the afternoon session, GFDD will contribute to the thematic debate presenting “Financing for Sustainable Development, Including Leveraging of Private Capital, in the Context of the Follow-up to the Outcome of the Rio+20 Conference” and “Global Partnership for Development in the Context of Post-2015 Development Agenda.”

The Foundations will present their work on the impacts of innovative
sources of financing for development, and will put forth recommendations. In addition, GFDD and FUNGLODE, on behalf of the Committee for Financing for Development will ardently reaffirm their support for the multi-stakeholder financing for development of the follow-up and implementation process set out in The Monterrey Consensus, which isa major point of reference for international development cooperation. This multi-stakeholder process that
explicitly includes civil society should be strengthened, and call for a follow-up conference as soon as possible.

The thematic debates on the above topics will be held consecutively in an informal plenary setting of the whole, in order to facilitate greater engagement of all participants and to promote an open exchange of views and experiences among all stakeholders, including civil society and the business sector.

The high-level annual meeting of
ECOSOC convenes executives from ECOSOC, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Member States, Observers, accredited intergovernmental organizations, civil society organizations and private sector entities.
