March 11, 2012

For the second time, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) have been invited by the NGO Committee for Financing for Development to deliver an intervention during the 2012 High-Level Meeting of the Economic and Social Council with the Bretton Woods Institutions, the World Trade Organization and the United Nations Conference on Trade and
Development, “Coherence, coordination and cooperation in the context of Financing for Development,” scheduled to take place March 12-13, at United Nations headquarters in New York City. GFDD and FUNGLODE will contribute to thematic debate 2: “Financing for sustainable development.”

The Foundations will present their work on the impacts of financial speculation of basic commodities on global sustainable development, and will put forth recommendations aimed at eradicating
excessive speculation. GFDD and FUNGLODE will be among seven other civil society organizations to contribute to high-level dialogues on financing for development.

The high-level annual meeting of ECOSOC will convene executives from ECOSOC, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Member States, Observers, accredited
intergovernmental organizations, civil society organizations and private sector entities.

GFDD and FUNGLODE look forward to contributing to the negotiations.

GFDD and FUNGLODE actively support the work of the United Nations System. In 2004, GFDD and FUNGLODE were admitted to the United Nations System as institutions with consultative status, joining the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development
(UNCTAD), the Department of Public Information (DPI), the Global Compact Office (UNGC), the Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).
