GFDD, FUNGLODE and UNA-DR Celebrate the Inauguration of the VII Edition of the International Conference of the Americas, CILA 2011

More than 1,000 youth attended the Inaugural Ceremony of the seventh edition of the International Conference of the Americas, CILA 2011. This year’s program of academic activities is directed both to the youth delegates and to their professors.

The words of welcome were delivered by CILA 2011 Secretary-General, Triana Aybar. Ms. Aybar reminded the delegates that the conference would present challenges in addition to opportunities for growth,
referencing the many occasions for intellectual debate and cultural and artistic exchange. She concluded by stating that CILA is a platform through which young people can have life transforming experiences.

Reiterating the message of Ms. Aybar, 2011 Youth Delegate, Mr. Luís David Sena, spoke of the relevance of formative events like CILA on the academic, professional and personal development of young people.

Office and FUNGLODE Director of Formative Activities, Yamile Eusebio conveyed GFDD and FUNGLODE’s commitment to supporting the next generation of global leaders and thinkers to realize their future initiatives.

Later on in the program, ANU-RD Executive Director, Ms. Pilar Sandoval, delivered the official statement of United Nations Secretary
General, Ban Ki-moon. In his message to the nation’s future leaders, he declared that in a world marked by constant change and challenge it is more crucial than ever before to create a common agenda so as to guarantee an environment of peace and equality for future generations.

Concluding the events of the evening, Ms. Valerie Julliand, congratulated the delegates for exercising their rights to present their ideas and to participate in the formulation of
solutions to humanitarian challenges worldwide.
