GFDD, FUNGLODE and UNA-DR Commemorate International Youth Day

On August 13, 2008, in celebration of International Youth Day, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and the United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic (UNA-DR) presented a screening of the film, The
11th Hour,
at FUNGLODE Headquarters in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
 
The theme of this year’s International Youth Day was “Youth and Climate Change: The Hour of Action.” The objective of the day was to incorporate and motivate youth in the fight against
environmental contamination.
 
The 11th Hour is a documentary that features insights from prominent global leaders and activists concerning the delicate state of the planet presently and the possible ways by which to revert existing
human-caused damage. Topics of concern addressed in the film include: the link between human behavior and atmospheric catastrophes, the relationship between climate change and illnesses such as cancer and childhood diabetes, and the need for immediate action.
 
The film is produced is narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by
Nadia Connors and Leila Connors Peterson.
 
The event was attended by students representing numerous academic institutions in the Dominican Republic.
 
As part
of their commitment to environmental protection, GFDD and FUNGLODE develop national and international projects and organize conferences and forums designed to promote awareness and improved understanding of environmental issues.
