InteRDom Students Complete Internships with Dominican Organizations

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo organized a ceremony to honor the 2007 InteRDom summer interns’ successful completion of their internships and academic studies. The ceremony was held at FUNGLODE, Thursday, August 9, 2007.

 

Over the course of twelve weeks, InteRDom program participants carried-out internships in the fields of: education, environmental studies, migration, international development, disaster management, remittances, gender issues and HIV/AIDs prevention.

 

Participating Dominican organizations benefited greatly from
the interns’ expertise and bilingual capacity. Partnering institutions this summer included: The Center for Export and Investment for the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD), the National Judiciary School (ENJ), the American Chamber of Commerce for the Dominican Republic (AMCHAM), the United Nations International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW), the Dominican newspaper Clave Digital, World Vision, the Pan-American Development Foundation (PADF), the Program for the Preparation and Prevention of Disasters (part of the United Nations Development Program),  Alianza ONG and  Centro León.

 

The academic component of InteRDom was coordinated by UNIBE University and included specialized courses on Contemporary Caribbean History and Culture, a Spanish language course and seminars on the Central American Free Trade Agreement with the Dominican Republic
(DR-CAFTA).
