October 24, 2013

Sunday, October 27, 2013, marks the opening of the Ninth Session of the International Conference of the Americas (CILA 2013) at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana.

CILA is a student event focusing on important global issues affecting Latin America and the Caribbean in which more than fifteen hundred young men and women, from different regions of the world, come together in an environment of diplomacy and cooperation to
discuss and propose solutions to the challenges facing the international community.

This year’s conference will be structured in groups, with each group representing one of 15 separate UN bodies/commissions and a number of related multilateral, regional or international institutions. The event will also
offer seminars, conferences, workshops and exhibitions, in addition to social and cultural activities, on themes directly related to the agenda of the United Nations. A series of parallel activities to the Model United Nations will be held, among which are: the II Congress of Educators, a Global Concert, Cultural Meeting Delegates Party, and the Second Edition of the Dominican International Law of Procedure Competition before the International Court of Justice (CODOCIJ 2013).
Sessions will be conducted in Spanish, English and French.

The International Conference of the Americas is being organized by the United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic, UNADR, in collaboration with Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE).  GFDD will be represented at the international conference by the
Director of the GFDD New York Office, Ms. Yamile Eusebio.
