Leonel Fernández Participates in the 2025 Ibero-American Impact Summit at the United Nations
September 27, 2025
New York – The former President of the Dominican Republic, and President of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (Funglode), Dr. Leonel Fernández, participated in the 2025 Ibero-American Impact Summit. The event was held on Friday, September 26, at the United Nations, within the framework of the 80th session of the General Assembly.
Convened by the PVBLIC Foundation, this Summit is the main Spanish-language meeting held during the U.N. High-Level Week. The event brought together Heads of State, Ministers, Senior Executives, Academics, and representatives of international organizations to discuss the major challenges facing the region.
The agenda focused on three strategic axes: natural capital, education, and space, highlighting the role of biodiversity, inclusive education systems, and space technologies—such as satellite monitoring and geospatial data— with the goal of building a sustainable and resilient future for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Dr. Fernández’s participation was particularly appreciated for his vision of democratic governance, regional integration, and sustainable development, underscoring the urgency of moving “from conversation to implementation” through cross-sector alliances that are capable of mobilizing investment, drive innovation, and enhance Ibero-America’s most valuable assets: its nature, its youth, and its ingenuity.
With Panama as the focal country, the Summit reaffirmed its role as a space for collective action in favor of sustainability. Fernández’s participation consolidated the Dominican Republic and Funglode as key players in promoting international dialogue and the search for solutions to global challenges.
