Natasha Despotovic Addresses the Washington Summit on Climate Stabilization

During four consecutive days, world experts, including the President of Iceland, Dr. Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, government, non-governmental organizations, and private sector representatives, multilaterals and international organizations, discussed in depth the many aspects and consequences of climate change and presented different proposals to palliate the situation to reach climate stabilization.

The Executive Director, Natasha Despotovic, addressed the audience presenting the case for for GFDD/FUNGLODE’s programs to raise public awareness and our different projects contributing to develop resources, trainings, and ideas among the communities, the academia, industry and tourism public and private sectors.

The Washington Summit on Climate Stabilization is an initiative of the Climate Institute, a Washington, DC based institution dedicated to inform key decision-makers, heighten international awareness of climate change, and identify practical ways of achieving
significant emissions reductions. The Climate Institute has a vast network of experts and alliances in the US and internationally. The Institute strives to be a source of objective, reliable information, distinguishing itself as a world leader in promoting global climate balance with practical and cooperative approaches.

The purpose of the Summit was to identify practical methods of achieving
the stabilization of global greenhouse concentrations within the lifetime of the Summit’s attendees; to discover specific examples of corporate innovation that are making a difference and can serve as an example for others, and to build partnerships with others committed to collaboration in coastal protection, climate adaptation, and climate stabilization, including members
of civic and religious groups and universities in the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and throughout Europe.

The Washington Summit on Climate Stabilization is an initiative of the Climate Institute, a Washington, DC The launch of the International Leadership Alliance for Climate Stabilization, a coalition of island nations and states or provinces within populous developing countries committed to pioneering climate protection strategies was also part of the program.

GFDD/FUNGLODE have several on-going projects around subjects widely discussed during the Summit, like the restoration of the coral
reefs, training programs and dissemination  and exchange of information and effective awareness programs at all levels, with decision-takers as well as community-based organizations.

GFDD/FUNGLODE shares a close working relationship with the Climate Institute which has provided speakers and technical expertise to several of our programs.
