Official Launch of IberFuturo Foundation

As a part of the inauguration ceremony of Ibero-American Forum on Education and New Technologies, Virtual Educa 2006, the Foundation IberFuturo was presented to the representatives of public, private and non governmental institutions in the auditorium of the Palacio de Congresos y de la Musica Euskalduna in Bilbao, Spain.

IberFuturo, an initiative of Virtual Educa in collaboration with Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, GFDD, and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo, FUNGLODE, was born as an instrument to manage and implement projects of innovation and cooperation, in support to the Ibero American cooperation and development in general. Natasha Despotovic, Executive Director of GFDD and Vice-President of FUNGLODE, represented both
institutions at the opening ceremony.

GFDD/FUNGLODE are founding partners of the new institution and has formally expressed their support to the initiative.

Iber Futuro is honoured to have the President of the Dominican Republic, and the Honorary President of GFDD/FUNGLODE , Dr. Leonel Fernández, at its President. Due to his commitments in the Dominican Republic, Dr. Fernández could not attend the
official launch but he sent an audiovisual message of support and encouragement to the new born initiative.

Foundation Iber Futuro will be based in Madrid and will have offices in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The Foundation has the input and support of several multilateral organizations, such as the General Secretariat for Ibero-American Cooperation (SEGIB), Organization of Ibero American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI for its Spanish
initials), Organization of American States (OAS), and the Latin American Institute for Educational Communication (ILCE for it Spanish initials.) It also has the support and contribution of numerous highly esteemed Latin American foundations and institutions like Fundación Omar Dengo, from Costa Rica, and Fundación Cisneros, of Venezuela, among others, as well as well established networks and associations, like the Union of Latin American and Caribbean Universities
(UDUAL for its Spanish initials) or the Organization of Inter-American Universities (OUI for its Spanish initials.
