The Global Media Arts Institute Presents: Five Days with Renzo Rossellini

June 27, 2007
GFDD and FUNGLODE’s Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI) will be presenting the program: “Five Days with Renzo Rossellini,” July 16 – 21, 2007 at FUNGLODE’s headquarters in Santo Domingo. This program seeks to commemorate the work and memory of legendary filmmaker, Roberto Rossellini.

This program will include a presentation and workshop given by Rossellini’s son,
artist and filmmaker, Renzo Rossellini.

Renzo Rossellini’s presentation: “Roberto Rossellini Centennial Celebration: Film Beyond Hollywood,” will take place Monday, July 16, at 6:00 pm, at FUNGLODE’s auditorium and will be open to the public. This presentation will highlight Roberto Rossellini’s significant contribution to cinematographic production.

Rossellini, transcendental filmmaker of the 20th century, is remembered for his innovative representation of universal emotions and social concepts. Rossellini is best known for his capacity to translate his artistic visions into emblematic representations, many of which now form part of modern-day Western
culture.

He is notorious for his use of non-professional actors, distinct languages and dialects, and authentic costume within his films.

His work transcends conventional concepts of documentary and feature film. His simultaneous employment of both forms within a single project led to the emergence of a new cinematographic genre — neo-realism.

Rossellini’s original incorporation of symbolic representation within his productions makes
him one of the foremost cinematographic artists of his time.

The workshop: “Cinematographic Production within a Limited Budget,” will take place Tuesday – Friday, 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm, and Saturday 9:00 am – 1:00 pm, at FUNGLODE.

“Cinematographic Production within a Limited Budget” will center on the following
topics: working within budgetary restrictions, creativity and artistic sensibility, the importance of telling captivating and evocative stories, and the use of new technologies within cinematographic production. This workshop will be directed towards film and television producers, and students of film production and scenic arts.

The Global Media Arts Institute is dedicated to providing comprehensive training in all areas of television
and film production. The Institute seeks to provide up-in-coming professionals in the television and film industry with instruction in the latest trends in audiovisual production as part of its overall mission to expand the cinematographic industry of the Dominican Republic.
