Dominican Teachers Trained in Quality Teaching

A total of 278 Dominican teachers and professors will be awarded with a diploma for the satisfactory completion of an Organization of the American States (Educational Portal of the Americas) course on line sponsored by Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, GFDD, and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo, FUNGLODE in collaboration with the ministries of Basic and Higher Education, Science and Technology.

The event will take
place Monday, January 23 rd at 12:00 noon at FUNGLODE in Santo Domingo . The ceremony will include Ms. Alejandrina Germán, Minister of Basic Education, and Ms. Ligia Amada de Melo, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Ms. Bertha Santoscoy, OAS Representative in the Dominican Republic , and Dr. Mónica Luque, Coordinator of the course.

Dr. Luque will lead a panel of experts in charge of identifying and training a qualified group
from the participants in the on line course who will receive further training to become trainers in teaching quality. This will leave capacity installed in the country and will facilitate the access to this instruction to a wider range of teachers and professor all over the national territory.

This activity is part of a more comprehensive effort to introduce education professionals into the world of distance education and to facilitate their access to the
world of distance education and the use of technology for their professional advancement and their students. Within this context GFDD has been conducting a series of events related to distance education in preparation for the launching of a virtual university with Dominican contents at the end of 2006.
