GFDD and FUNGLODE Announce 2007 Award Winners

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) held a press conference on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at 10:30 am in the FUNGLODE Art Gallery to announce the GFDD and FUNGLODE Award winners. The Awards acknowledge excellence in the following categories: Photography, Short Film, Documentary Film, Short Story, Poetry, Essay and Journalism.
 
A total of 583 entries were submitted: 113 poems, 354 short stories, 29 short films, 48 features and reports, 16 documentaries and 7 essays.
 
The awards will be presented on November 26 during the activities being held to celebrate the FUNGLODE’s anniversary.
 
First, second and third place winners in each category will be awarded cash prizes starting at RD
$50,000.00 up to RD $100,000.00.
 

 

The
“Rafael Herrera” Journalism Award
First Place (RD$100,000.00) was awarded to Edwin Ruiz from Semanario Clave for: “When the Rights of Members of the Pension System are Trampled On.”
Second place (RD$75,000.00) was awarded to Gabriel Read of Listín Diario for: “Talent on the Run.”
Third place (RD$50,000.00) was awarded to Panky Corcino from Semanario Clave for: “The Colonial District Waiting Forever”
Honorable Mention:
“Female Examples” (Listín Diario), by Adriana Peguero.
“Green Light for Tobacco” (Semanario Clave), by Isaías Miguel Ortiz.
“The Guano Moves Hope”
(Semanario Clave), by Elvira Lora.
“Abusive Teachers Prey on Students” (Listín Diario), by Maribel de los Santos
“Juan Bosch” Prize for the Short
First Place (RD$75,000.00) was awarded to Johanna Díaz López (pseudonym: Felina) for “Silverio de tal.”
Second Place (RD$50,000.00) was awarded to Glennys Álvarez (pseudonym: Angelika) for “Uneven Realities.”
Third Place (RD$24,000.00) was awarded to Luis R. Santos (pseudonym: Adela Michas) for:
“María Kodama and Me.”
