GFDD and FUNGLODE Organize ESL Skill Building Workshop

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarollo (FUNGLODE), organized a skill building workshop for English as a Second Language instructors in the Dominican Republic. The workshop took place July 6-7, 2007 at FUNGLODE Headquarters in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

 

The objective of the workshop was to instruct ESL educators in the Dominican Republic on the latest technology for teaching English as a Second Language, in order to equip them with new teaching methods designed
to improve students’ reading and writing capacities.

 

Presentations introduced instructors to a variety of resources, tools and ideas that can be used to motivate learning and improve English language skills. Special emphasis was placed on the use of ESL software designed to address the core competencies that students need to acquire in order to develop mastery of the English language.

 

Representatives from the following Dominican and U.S. institutions and organizations participated in the program: the Dominican Ministry of Education (SEE), the Dominican Ministry of Higher Education Science and Technology (SEESCyT), the New Horizons Bilingual School, the Lux Mundi School, the Saint Thomas School, Consultant LlU/NYU, New York University, Marymount Manhattan College, The New School and Long Island University.
