GFDD Organizes Lecture by President Fernández at Georgetown University

September 12, 2005

As part of a continued effort to reach out to U.S. institutions and strengthen the links between the Dominican Republic and the U.S. public in general, GFDD, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Washington , organized a lecture delivered by President Leonel Fernández at Georgetown University on September 12.

The event started with some welcome remarks by Dr. Dennis Quinn, Assistant Provost of International Studies and President Fernández was introduced by Dr. Arturo Valenzuela, Professor of the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service and Director of the Center for Latin American Studies at Georgetown University.

This program gave President Fernández an excellent opportunity to expose his views on the
challenges that Latin American countries face in their struggle for consolidating social and economic development within democracy. His presentation was followed by a lively exchange with the public, which included professors, students and members of the Dominican community.
