Hollywood Producer Barbara Boyle Will Speak on the Cinematographic Industry of the XXI Century

GFDD and FUNGLODE’s Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), in collaboration with the US Embassy in the Dominican Republic’s Franklin Center, will present the lecture: “How to Train Professional for the Film Industry of the XXI Century,” given by accredited US Producer and Director of UCLA’s Department of Film, Television and Digital Media, Barbara Boyle. The conference will take place on July 19, 2007, 7:00 pm at FUNGLODE
headquarters in Santo Domingo and will be open to the public.
 
Natasha Despotovic, GFDD Executive Director and FUNGLODE Vice President will introduce Boyle. The acclaimed producer arrived in the Dominican Republic the beginning of the week to meet with a number of Dominican filmmakers and professors.
 
Boyle has extensive experience in both film production and cinematographic
distribution. Her television and film productions include: Phenomenon, Bottle Rocket, Eight Men Out, Mrs. Munck, and The Hi-Line.
 
Her company, Sovereign Pictures, Inc., has financed and distributed internationally more than 25 films including: Mi Pie Izquierdo, Cinema Paradiso,
Reversal of Fortune, Impromptu, Hamlet, and The Commitments. Fourteen films represented by Sovereign have been nominated for Academy Awards and four have received awards.
 
Boyle is a member of Women in Film. She served as President of the organization from 1977 to 1978 and was a member of its Advisory Council from 1990 to 1993. In 2000 she received the
prestigious Crystal Award. She is also a member of the Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences.
