InteRDom Supports 5th Annual National Dominican Student Conference

InteRDom is pleased to support the 5th Annual Dominican Student Conference, which will take place this year from April 8-10 on the campus of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.  This year’s conference is a bit of a homecoming, as Yale’s Dominican Student Group, the QuisqueYalies, hosted the original conference in 2007.

For the fifth consecutive year, InteRDom is lending a hand to conference organizers to better advertise the event to Diaspora students all over the country.  InteRDom will also be present with a booth at the networking event in agenda for Saturday afternoon, April 9th.  

This year’s theme is “Rooted and Growing,” in celebration of the conference’s fifth anniversary and the growth that the Dominican student
community has experienced in the past five years.   The agenda will feature some recurrent staple activities, like the mangú breakfast and the Saturday night dance party aptly titled “Se Fue la Luz,” and the list of conference workshops features topics like Dominican-Haitian relations, the effects of baseball on society and sex tourism.  Some of the featured speakers include current Vice President of the Dominican Republic, Rafael
Alburquerque de Castro, Dominican baseball legend Pedro Martinez and his wife, Carolina, who is the directors of the non-profit Hay Poder en Aprender.  Julissa Reynoso, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Central American and Caribbean Affairs at the US Department of State will also be in attendance.

This year’s conference hopes to attract close to 300 students to serve its mission to educate, uplift and unite the Dominican college student
community in the United States.

InteRDom’s participation in the Conference is part of the efforts that its parent institutions Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, FUNGLODE, make to strengthen collaboration with the Dominican descendants and
professionals living in the United States and abroad.
