International Seminar on Evaluation and Certification of Distance Education Institutions

The seminar will take place in the Open University for Adults (Universidad Abierta para Adultos, UAPA), Santiago de los Caballeros , Dominican Republic , January 23-25, 2006.

With the support of the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), the Inter-American Association for Distance Education (Asociación Iberoamericana de Educación a Distancia, AIESAD), Santillana Publishing
Company, Ediciones SM Publishing Company, and the Organization of American States (OAS), UAPA will celebrate the first international seminar on quality evaluation and certification of distance higher education institutions, on January 23-25, 2006.

The international seminar on Evaluation and Certification of Distance Education Institutions will have the participation of recognized international institutions linked to distance education, as the Costa Rican
Distance State University (UNED for its Spanish initials), the Technical Particular University of Loja (UTPL for its Spanish initials), the Distance Education National University of Spain (UNED for its Spanish initials), the National Certification Agency of Spain(ANECA), and the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE). Renowned international speakers from Costa Rica , Colombia and Ecuador will also participate in the seminar.

The main
objectives of the seminar are to promote discussion spaces for topics related to the evaluation and certification of distance education programs; to analyze the different models of distance education institutional evaluation, from the context within each model has been developed; to analyze different experiences of certificating universities and agencies to specific strategies and actions that guarantee the quality of these institutions; and to promote an international exchange network
based in the Dominican Republic, while identifying the international trends in the field of evaluation and certification of distance higher education.

The seminar is intended to professors, evaluators, researchers, higher education officials and other related professionals.

The event is also supported by Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and Global Foundation for Democracy and Development
(GFDD), both institutions involved in the development of the Virtual University in Dominican Republic (VU in DR) (http://www.globalfoundationdd.org/), a project aimed to offer online courses of relevant contents related to the Dominican Republic. This project is committed to providing learning opportunities to all Dominicans and learners throughout the region and around the world, and at the
same time, improving the Dominican human capital and technological progress of Dominican Republic .
