The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), together with its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), and the UNIBE Ecological Group, is launching the National Climate Change Awareness Program entitled: Translating Science into Action. The event will take place May 24, 2007 at 7:00 pm in FUNGLODE’s auditorium in Santo Domingo.

Translating Science into Action will be the closing event of GFDD and FUNGLODE’s Climate Change Week. It is specifically targeted towards
teachers, professors, students, environmental and youth groups, as well as individuals interested in learning more about the impact of global warming and raising awareness about the issue in their communities. Translating Science into Action will also look at practical steps individuals can take to help reduce their emissions
footprint.

The National Climate Change Awareness Program: Translating Science into Action seeks to fulfill the following objectives:

To bring together key groups who have a keen interest in raising awareness about climate change (teachers, professors,
students, youth groups, NGOs, etc.)
To build capacity, and promote awareness-raising activities in local schools, universities, community
centers, etc.
To formally introduce the theme of climate change into the educational agenda
To distribute an educational package regarding climate change and global warming
To form a network of educational groups and organizations with an interest in climate change issues
