Supporting Youth-led NGOs and Advocacy Efforts to Combat Climate Change at the Youth Impact Climate Action Event

New York, NY. – The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) was a supporting organization at the Youth Impact Climate Action event held at the Baha’i International Office in New York City on Thursday, April 25.

The meeting, led by the NGO Committee on Sustainable Development (NGOCSD), aimed to raise awareness on sustainable development and advocacy efforts around the globe that are led by young people. It brought together leading organizations and activists that are working to confront global warming and climate change for a dialogue and several presentations on ongoing innovative sustainability and environmental projects.

GFDD was represented at the meeting by its New York Office Director Yamile Eusebio.

Among the featured organizations supporting the meeting were NGOCSD-NY; Global Family; Youth for a Better World/Montessori MUN; Climate Reality; MY World Mexico 2030; Humanitarian Focus Foundation; Huairou Commission; NGO/MG Urban Cluster and Salvation Army International Social Justice Commission, just to mention a few.

The welcoming remarks were made by Margo LaZaro, the President and Chair of NGOCSD-NY.

Sustainable Development Agenda to Leave No One Behind.

Later she introduced the young leaders and organizations that would be presenting in the panel discussion.

The panel featured environmental sustainability experts and youth activists from around the globe, including Sweden, Poland, Mexico and New Jersey.

During the round table discussion, Ms. Amanda J. Nesheiwat presented some initiatives from the Town of Secaucus. The unique efforts by that town include being a Silver Certified Community with Sustainable Jersey, the Community Garden and Rain Gardens projects as well as using Solar on Municipal Buildings and LED lighting on municipal buildings, electric vehicles/free charging stations, and others energy-saving efforts.

Ms. Nikki Fraser mentioned that “Indigenous people, particularly indigenous women are at the front lines of grassroots movements protecting water and traditional territories, these movements are also intertwined with gender equality.”

These were among several highlighted efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable development.
